How to Care for Your Leather Bags?

Leather handbags are classic, stylish, and durable. Although they can be more expensive than bags made from other materials, high-quality leather bags can keep their shape for years when taken care of properly. With proper care, your leather bags won’t dry out and crack, protecting your investment. A sac cuir LOWELL MTL will serve you for as long as you need them, so you want to know how to care for them. The following are the steps you must take to care of your bag and ensure they last for years:

Clean the Bag

When cleaning your leather bag, ensure your hands are clean. This bag is susceptible to absorbing grease and oil. Clean the bag every other day, quickly sweeping it with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth. Also, you can wipe down your bag with a cleaner made specifically for leather. Do this once or twice a year to eliminate dirt buildup.

Condition the Bag

You can buy leather conditioner on the market. This product is like a moisturizer for your bag that keeps it from drying out. Apply the condition to a soft cloth and gently rub it over your bag to prevent flaking and wrinkling. This can be done at least twice every year or once a month, depending on your climate. Although you don’t have to pamper your leather bag, you must know that heavy exposure to the elements will age the leather significantly. Thus, it is important to adjust your leather care and cleaning habits accordingly.

Store the Bag Properly

Leather bags must be stored with bubble wrap or parchment paper so they can hold their shape. Put the stuffed leather bag in its original dust bag and store it in its original box, together with silica gel packets to prevent dampness. Airing the bag once every couple of weeks can prevent the growth of molds.

When cleaning your leather bag, do not use cleaning products with alcohol, turpentine, or other mineral spirits to avoid leather discolouration and drying. Also, ensure water does not soak into the bag. Should your bag get wet, never use a hairdryer on it. Rather, use a thick microfiber hand towel to absorb as much water as possible and let the bag air dry. Make sure to condition the bag again before storing it.

Moreover, when storing cosmetics inside the bag, keep them inside a pouch. Make sure all pens and other things that will leak capped.
